Celebration time, College & Ashby, Friday 11/6 4:00 pm

There will be entertainment, snacks, and lots of smiles. We blew past even the highest estimates in the pool. I have to see who was most optimistic to award the champagne.

There’s no special observation I can add to what you already know. We stomped MAGA all across the country. We turned Texas blue. We conquered despair.

(November 6 would have been my mother’s <redacted> birthday, and this is the present she would have wanted.)

  1. If you hadn’t heard this, a friend sent me this note: both the newly elected Governor and Secretary of State in Georgia are black women. That’s only the start. To quote a GA paper: “In addition to Bottoms and Brown Reynolds, the six other Black women who ran for statewide office in Georgia and won are Tanya Miller, who will be attorney general; Katherine Juhan-Arnold, who will be agriculture commissioner; Keisha Waites, who will be insurance commissioner; Nikki Porcher, who will be labor commissioner; Sheila Edwards, who will be public service commissioner; and Lydia Powell, who will be state school superintendent.” Eight black women now run Georgia. How awesome is that?!? Black women were the absolute foundation of the civil rights movement and they’ve kept on doing the organization work ever since. I am in awe of all that they’ve done.

In other news … current results showed Democrats would secure new trifectas — control of both chambers and the governor’s office – in Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Democrats also broke Republican trifectas in Georgia, Iowa, Ohio and Texas. Democrats will control the Arizona legislature for the first time in 60 years. Building off a historic sweep of statewide races, Democrats are to take control of the Texas House for the first time in over 20 years. In North Carolina, Democrats flipped several House seats held by influential, veteran Republicans to give the party control of the lower chamber for the first time since 2010.

    See you Friday!
