California Indivisible is concentrating on the Newsom redistricting ballot measure, which will be Proposition 50 on the November ballot. Naomi and I are attending a statewide Indivisible meeting in Sacramento this weekend. We assume getting this passed will be Indivisible’s major project through November.
Sally and Jane reported some disappointment with the orientations at La Peña that we mentioned earlier. Many additional opportunities to help immigrants and melt ICE will happen. Judy reports that volunteers will be on corners where ICE is doing raids. (She borrowed our button-maker to do some for these volunteers to wear.)
We started postcards for Jessica Anderson, Virginia House of Delegates, district that includes Williamsburg. This would be a flip. We lost in 2003 by less than 1000.
I thought this comment from Stephen Miller, in Letter from An American by Heather Cox Richardson, was worth sharing.
(We’re not all over 90 – but close – and we’re not all hippies – and we’re not in Washington DC – but we more or less fit in the category he’s disparaging so let’s continue to protest loudly and strongly every Friday)
” Today, with the chants of those protesting Trump’s takeover of Washington, D.C., echoing in the background, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller told reporters: “We’re not going to let the communists destroy a great American city…. [T]hese stupid white hippies…all need to go home and take a nap because they’re all over 90 years old, and we’re gonna get back to the business of protecting the American people and the citizens of Washington, D.C.”

Hi Andy and Naomi, Thanks for the minutes of Aug 17. I’m sorry I missed the meeting.
I’m wondering how the meeting in Sacramento was? Are there any materials/links for more information or plans for postcard writing or other actions? I’m distressed by the League of Woman Voters’ opposition to the redistricting. Was that discussed? Do you know if there any talking points to counteract their arguments?
I appreciate all you do!
