Minutes from the June 8 meeting

Although attendance at the Friday protests is down slightly, there was a strong feeling in favor of continuing them. Bring a friend! We are concentrating on getting big turnout for No Kings protests on June 14. The only event listed for Berkeley is at the I–80 pedestrian overpass, but there are marches in both Oakland and San Francisco. Another Berkeley Indivisible group will rendezvous at Ashby BART at 12:15 to go together: we are welcome to join.

Sally is attending a Vote Forward after-action report. Letters do not seem to have been as effective in 2024 as before.

Delegate Michael Feggans campaign: We are going to do a musical fundraiser, coordinated by Tanya Tomkins, to be held Saturday, June 21, 4:30–6:00 pm. Location will be in the Elmwood, given on RSVP. Limited to 25 attendees. Further details will follow soon.

Delegate Nadarius Clark campaign: We got about halfway through our 500 postcards to write. Great job! We can finish next time and return them to the Clark campaign, which will mail them. I’m glad I am not alone in thinking local postmarks are best! Warning: postage rates are going up next month.

  1. For what it’s worth, I urge you to continue to sponsor and publicize the Friday Protests at Ashby & College. (I’ve only missed once since mid-February)

  2. Hi Andy,

Where are you getting your postcard addresses from? I have some writers but I’m uncertain whether the ‘call your Republican Rep’ scripts from Activate America are effective. What do you think? Jody

  3. As a part time Berkeley resident, I miss the Friday event while I am back in Minnesota. Yesterday was a bit surreal here and a very sad day. But people did not hide in fear from the violence, and the event at the MN state capital was huge even though it was “cancelled.” I was perhaps an appropriate way to also honor the martyrs who gave their life for public service. Unfortunately, I do not see any practical way of reproducing the weekly events here in Minnesota. It does seem important to maintain a constant voice against a corrupt and illegitimate government. As a pacifist, it is hard to watch the decay of order around the world, but I have no intention of hiding in fear in the face of growing political violence. But hopefully we will not have to have more martyrs. I hope to see you soon at College and Ashby.
